Powerful disk management tool that enables you to backup your entire drive, partition or individual files
Backing up data is something that all computer owners know they should be doing. But the time involved in deciding which files and folders should be included in a backup means that many people simply never get round to it - only wishing they had when it is too late. O&O DiskImage 5 Professional is a powerful tool which takes the hard work out of backing up your valuable files by creating an image of entire drives or partitions.
Images can be saved to another drive or partition, or stored on a network drive and high levels of encryption can be used to ensure that no data can be accessed without authority. Image compression can be used to help reduce the amount of storage space that is needed to house backups, and entire drives can be restored in just a few clicks of the mouse.
All images that are created can be checked and validated to ensure that the backup process went according to plan, and the option to mount images as virtual drives means that it is possible to browse their contents without the need to restore them first. A key feature of O&O DiskImage is Machine Independent Restoration. MIR means that it is possible to create a backup of data on one computer and restore it to another, regardless of whether the same hardware is installed. This can be useful when you buy a new computer and want to transfer data from one machine to another, but also when hardware problem, such as a faulty hard drive or motherboard, require the installation of new hardware.
The professional edition of the program includes a number of more advanced options such as the ability to automatically create image on schedule and the time saving option to create incremental images. The program can also be used to clone drives - which is useful when upgrading your hard drive - and the BareMetal option allows for data restoration without the need to install the software in advance. This is the brand new v6 (the above review was for DiskImage 5). The latest v6 ships with file backup, so you can choose the individual files and folders you want to backup/restore. Machine Independent Restoration (MIR) enables you to restore a backup to a brand new computer, if you want to migrate your data to a different PC or hard drive. Other features include the facility to turn a virtual partition in to a DiskImage backup file has also been added.
